The Institute of International Relations Prague (IIR) organizes the 10th Symposium on the Czech Foreign Policy: Rethinking the Future at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic on 19-20 September 2018. The aim is to bring together researchers, former and current practitioners, academics, politicians, students, media and the public to exchange views on key topics related to the Czech foreign policy in the era of uncertainty in the international relations in the European and global arenas. The anniversary symposium is not a simple reflection on the Czech foreign policy over the past ten years; it also provides an opportunity to highlight some constructive solutions for the short to medium-term in various fields of research while taking in consideration the current domestic and international developments. The organizer has expanded the list of speakers geographically by including participants from as far as Australia, Japan, India, the United States, as well as European speakers from Germany, France, Hungary, Slovakia and more.

The panelists are going to respond to questions related to the major shifts in power in the world order, mainly in relation to changed policies of the United States and China. Rethinking the future of the European Union/Europe is going to be on agenda, as well as a reevaluation of the global economic reordering and changes in security and defense spheres. It is clear that the Czech Republic will have to shape its responses in these spheres and pay even more attention to the policies of key players, as such; the panelists will analyze the policies of various European countries, USA, China, India or Japan, while the international audience will be encouraged to discuss other countries’ perspectives too. The IIR also prepared specialized panels on Space, Energy, Gender and New Approaches to International Relations Analysis. As part of the 50th anniversary of Prague Spring celebrations, a panel themed Our Freedom Should Not be Taken for Granted will include an exchange of views on values and events related to the Prague Spring of 1968 and their relevance for today.

The organizing team from the Institute of International Relations Prague is looking forward to welcoming everyone at the Czernin Palace of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 19-20 September 2018.
