Call for Application: EU NPDC Internship at the IIR

The IIR as a member of the European network of independent non-proliferation think-tanks is opening the call for applications within the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium (EU NPDC) internship programme. The internship duration is 3 months (13 weeks) and should be completed by May 2023. The EU NPDC will provide monthly subsidies for a limited number of students for the duration of the internship. Interns from the EU as well as non-EU countries should be master students, PhD students, post-docs, junior diplomats or journalists with a strong interest in arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament. Applicants should have a completed university Bachelor's degree (as a minimum).

The intern is expected to conduct research-related tasks and produce a final essay of a minimum of 20 pages with at least 20 different sources. Possible essay topics might include nuclear proliferation, the control of small arms and light weapons, CBRN security, arms control options for UAVs, civilian uses of outer space, nuclear weapon-free zones, and regional dynamics of conventional arms control. The IIR will provide office space as well as mentorship and it will administer the basic curriculum too.

  • Cover Letter specifying expectations of the applicant regarding the internship as well as her/his motivation and preferred research topic

The closing date for applications is November 15, 2022. Selected candidates will be invited for interviews. The expected start date is February 1, 2023. It may be negotiated based on individual circumstances.
