Rudolf Fürst Senior Nonresident Fellow

Rudolf Fürst works as a senior researcher of the IIR and is a member of the Asia Pacific Unit under the Centre for the Study of Global Regions. He studied Economy at the University of Economics Prague, a bachelor’s program Sinology and Orientalism at the Charles University Prague. He completed a yearlong course of the Chinese language at the Language institute in Beijing. He earned his PhD in International Relations at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University (Ph.D.). In addition, he works at the Institute of Political Science, Faculty of Arts, Charles University. In the past he was an interpreter at the Czech-Chinese company Hunan-Desta in the People's Republic of China (1997) and secretary and translator at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Prague (1993-1996). He also worked as an external lecturer at the Metropolitan University, Prague and at the Department of Political Science of the Charles University, Prague. The subject of his professional interest is the area of China, the Far East, Czech-Chinese relations, EU-PRC relations, relations between Central and Eastern Europe and the PRC, post-communist transformation in Eastern Europe and East Asia, and soft power in East and West relations. He is a member of the European Think-tank Network on China (ETNC).
