We Are Looking for a New International Law Colleague

We are looking for a new colleague who would fill the following position: Senior Research Fellow in International Law. The IIR is seeking to appoint one full-time or two part-time research fellow(s) in international law. The position would be held within the IIR Centre for International Law which the Institute intends to establish. The principal duty will be to conduct international quality research in international law and publish its results in international journals and publishing houses.

The IIR intends to establish the new Centre for International Law. The Centre will research topics at the intersection of international law and international relations. It will pay special attention to the areas of human rights, international criminal law, the law of armed conflicts, international institutional law and the theory of international law. Its ambition is to provide high-quality research while at the same time serving as an expert centre of legal analysis for the Czech foreign policy.

The IIR is seeking to appoint one full-time research fellow or two part-time research fellows in international law to work within the IIR Centre for International Law. The principal duty of the research fellow will be to conduct international quality research in international law and publish its results in international journals and via publishing houses. In addition to that, s/he should be able to carry out policy analysis and provide policy makers with her/his expertise in the form of policy papers, ad hoc studies and consultations. S/he will also be encouraged to appear in the media and engage in the public debate on international law, and the IIR will support her/him in such activities. With the support of the IIR’s project manager, s/he is also expected to apply for additional research funding and become a leader or co-leader of research projects that will include other IIR research fellows, associate researchers and PhD students. The research fellowship can be combined with lecturing at a partner university in Prague.

Qualifications

  • A PhD degree (in Law, International Relations or a closely related subject). Previous experience as a researcher/lecturer is an advantage.
  • A solid theoretical and methodological background in international law.
  • Several academic publications, such as articles in international journals, and academic books or book chapters that were published by well-known publishing houses.
