Francois Heisbourg gave the welcoming speech in theseminar, which was concerned with current security challenges in the transatlantic space. The main theme of the discussion was the ongoing crisis in Ukraine and the responses of NATO and the EU. Concurrently, besides discussing the risks related to the situation in the “East”, the individuals taking part in the discussion also touched upon the potential threats coming from the South, especially the influence of radical groups in the wide arc extending from Nigeria to the Middle East by way of North and sub-Saharan Africa.
