Governing Planetary Defense: Politics, Ethics, Law in the Global Response to an Asteroid Threat

A call for papers has been announced for three upcoming special issues focused on the political, ethical, and legal dimensions of planetary defence. Coordinated by an editorial team from Swinburne University of Technology, Masaryk University, and the Institute of International Relations in Prague, this initiative seeks critical insights into how the international community can develop a legitimate and effective governance framework to address asteroid threats. While scientific knowledge on asteroid deflection is advancing, global cooperation and legal structures remain underdeveloped.

Researchers and experts in political science, ethics, philosophy, and law are invited to submit their abstracts to contribute to a multidisciplinary discussion on the governance of planetary defence. The special issues aim to inform future policy proposals and will culminate in presentations at the UN COPUOS.
