CJIR Achieves Q1 Status Among the Most Prestigious Journals in Its Field
Czech Journal of International Relations (CJIR) has achieved a major success in the latest Scimago Journal Rank evaluation. In the 2025 rankings, the journal has moved from the third quartile to the first and now ranks among the top academic journals in Political Science and International Relations.
With an SJR score of 0.622, the journal published by the IIR has entered the Q1 category, which represents the top quarter of journals worldwide. This is a remarkable achievement. CJIR is now the highest ranked journal in Political Science in the country, and the second best in all of Central and Eastern Europe.
This result reflects several years of consistent work by the editorial team and the wider academic community. The journal has been led by editors Michal Kolmaš, Jan Daniel, Jan Kovář and Eva Svatoňová, whose efforts, together with those of the advisory board, former editors and the publisher, have contributed to its growing international standing.
Equally important are the authors themselves, who form the core of any academic journal. In the case of the Czech Journal of International Relations, 63 percent of authors are women. This is an unusually high share in academic publishing and represents a very positive signal in terms of diversity and inclusion.
The new ranking also shows that, despite limited resources compared to those of major international publishing houses, the journal is able to compete with established international titles and in some cases even outperform them. It now stands alongside or ahead of well-known journals including International Politics, Alternatives and International Peacekeeping.
This success is an important milestone not only for the journal itself, but also for the broader Czech academic community in the field of international relations. It confirms that long term focus on quality, openness and diversity can lead to strong international recognition.
