Great Britain
The United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy consisting of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and a number of smaller dependent territories around the world. It plays an important, albeit declining, role in world politics thanks to its permanent membership in the UN Security Council and the G7, its ownership of nuclear weapons and the above-standard level of its armed forces, diplomacy and security services. The UK maintains active relations with the independent countries of the former British Empire within the Commonwealth. It is a founding member of NATO and, since 2020, the first country to leave the European Union.
