Armament
A set of processes associated with development, production, acquisition, control and limitation of means, the purpose of which is primarily related to military engagements in various conflicts across the globe. Violence and arms are an inherent part of our life since the very beginning of human history and there are no signs that this is going to change anytime soon. The costs of armament create a natural hierarchy among states based (not only) on their overal military capabilities. At the same time, the frequently mentioned categorisation of arms into offensive and defensive weapons has very little analytical added value. Systematic arms control efforts emerged during the 20th century and they culminated in an attempt to achieve a comprehensive nuclear disarmament.
