Dead or dormant? Germany after Ostpolitik

It is our pleasure to invite you to “Dead or dormant? Germany after Ostpolitik,” with Associate Professor Ian Klinke.

13. 5. 2026 (17:00)

Institute of International Relations Prague (Nerudova 257/3, Prague 1)

Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine has raised questions about the future of Germany’s erstwhile social democratic Eastern policy. Expert, Ian Klinke will examine whether the war in Ukraine has caused lasting damage to Ostpolitik by revisiting its geopolitical foundations and tracing its gradual decline over the past decade. This talk will explore how German politics and society today navigate sitting on the fault line between Atlanticism, Ostpolitik, and Geopolitik. Is Germany now at a turning point in its foreign policy direction?
