Ukraine

It is an Eastern European state forming an imaginary bridge between Europe and Russia. Ukraine gained independence in 1991 after the collapse of the Soviet Union and is a very heterogeneous state. The strategic position of the state, its natural conditions and resources and its size made it very likely that it would have an important position on the European continent. However, this potential is not fully exploited and economically Ukraine is one of the poorest European states. Its state instability is linked to its troubled history, the geopolitical interests of great powers, and the recent crisis in 2014 (Russiaʼs annexation of Crimea and the war in eastern Ukraine).
