Dr. Elena Zhirukhina has become a new member of our team at the IIR
Dr. Elena Zhirukhina has become a new member of our team at the IIR. Elena will be covering topics relating to security issues as a member of Centre for European Security research team. Previously worked at the Russian Academy of Science, held a Marie Curie Fellowship at the University of St Andrews, and held a Lecturer position at the Academy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Elena received her PhD at the University of St Andrews where she studied state strategies of countering violent non-state actors, including the Russian counterterrorism in the North Caucasus. She had held grants from Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) under the 7th European Community Framework Programme, the Directorate of Youth and Sport of Council of Europe, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and Erasmus+ Higher Education Student and Staff Mobility Programme.
She has contributed peer-reviewed articles including to Nationalities Papers, Politeia, Vestnik of the National Antiterrorist Committee, and a book chapter to the edited book project on Illiberal Peace. Elena also published in a format of policy paper for a joint political report on the European security.
