Europe as a Task 2025

We are excited to share that, together with the Association for International Affairs (AMO) and the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, we are organising the first edition of the Europe as a Task Conference – a new high-level international event focused on the future of the EU.

12. 5. 2025 (10:00)

Czernin Palace, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Loretánské náměstí 5

Europe as a Task focuses on addressing key European challenges from a global perspective and enriching discussions on the EU within the Czech context. Recognising the need for a platform to foster a meaningful dialogue on European affairs, we bring expertise, research, and fresh perspectives to the conversation.

The inaugural ceremony of the conference will take place on May 12, 2025, in the Spanish Hall of Prague Castle, attended by the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel. The working part of the conference will follow on May 13, 2025, held at the Czernin Palace.

The first edition of the conference, held under the theme Pursuing prosperity in a shifting world, focuses on core challenges in European politics, such as Europe’s geopolitical influence, security, trade policy and competitiveness. Through high-level dialogue, the conference aims to generate actionable insights for a stronger, more resilient Europe and foster and enrich pro-European thinking in Central Europe.

This year's topics include:

  • Competitiveness of the European Economy
  • Economic Security and the EU as a Geopolitical Player
  • Support for Ukraine and the Security Situation in Europe

The conference is organised by AMO - Association for International Affairs, Institute for European Policy EUROPEUM and the Institute of International Relations Prague in cooperation with the Office of the President of the Czech Republic, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, the Representation of the European Commission in the Czech Republic, Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung, the Government Office of the Czech Republic, and the International Visegrad Fund.

Europe as a Task is held under the auspices of the Office of the President of the Czech Republic and the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The conference is co-funded by the European Union.

High-level panel discussion: Pursuing Prosperity in a Shifting World

Security is the foundation on which everything is built, says Sauli Niinistö in his key report on strengthening Europe’s preparedness and readiness. In other words, security not only includes its economic standpoint among its many dimensions, but it is the very precondition for our prosperity. With the rules-based world order shaken by the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the recent erosion of the transatlantic bond, Europe must rethink its defence policy and find new ways to boost its competitiveness at the same time. The task seems even more complex with twin transitions on our hands and growing uncertainties in the global environment. Some even question whether Europe can afford to keep our climate and social ambitions intact in such challenging times. What should the EU do not only to survive, but to thrive?
