What are the main reasons behind the Russia´s economic stagnation? And why are Moscow´s recent economic initiatives doomed to fail?

Russian economy stagnates after a period of recovery growth that followed the 2008-2009 crisis. Main reasons are the economic policies in 2000s that caused over-saturation and exhaustion of domestic services market after 2010 and the authoritarian system where elites outlaws the competition which negatively effects market. But can we find another reasons?

Dr. Inozemtsev will also analyze the recent rhetorics of the Russian leaders to prove that in fact thay seem to be OK with the current economic condition of their country. The Kremlin openly values stability over change, and in economic realm it means the stagnation creates no danger to the regime. So the major part of ‘Moscow’s economic incentives’ these days represent a pure propaganda.

The lecture will be followed by open discussion moderated by Emil Aslan (Research Director, Institute of International Relations).

Join us at the Institue of International Relations and discuss this topic with Dr. Inozemstev himself.
