Environment

The environment is a complex interaction between human economic and political relations and environmental and ecological phenomena. Because human material production and exchange penetrate the natural world and are affected by it in return, this complex and dynamic relationship has everything to do with global social justice. In the IIR, we approach it through political ecology to understand the connection between environmental degradation and contemporary global capitalism. Phenomena such as climate change are then analysed not as external factors but as inherent products of human activity which can be transformed for a more sustainable world.
