European Missile Defence: A Russian Self-fulfilling Prophecy

Since the Russian annexation of Crimea, the ever-growing Russian missile threat has amplified the security dilemma in Europe.

With Germany expressing its interest in buying the Arrow 3 Israeli-US defence-missile system and Britain’s decision to increase its nuclear stockpile to counteract the Russian Kinzhal hypersonic missile system, one has to appreciate the irony of Putin’s self-fulfilling prophecy coming to pass.

In the article for The Strategist, Azriel Bermant explores factors that are fuelling Central European desire to increase its missile defence that can be traced back to US withdrawal from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty.
